Powerboat Offshore World Championships Set to Return to Key West

One of the biggest boat races in the world is making a comeback this year to Key West. The 40th Annual Race World Offshore Key West World Championships will be held in Key West this year from Sunday November 7 - Sunday November 14. After being canceled last year due to precautions taken due to covid-19, the heart-pounding and thrilling powerboat races are sure to be even more highly anticipated than ever.

Participating in the world-class races will be teams made up of both American and international racing superstars from the American Powerboat Association and Union Internationale Motonautique. This is the season-ending race for the stars and Key West’s course is known as a pulse-pounding and competitive course due to its alternating between calm and rough waters each lap. Each lap racers will speed through the 4.4 mile course which runs just offshore of some of the biggest tourist spots in Key West.

A unique feature of the Raceworld Offshore Key West World Championships is the amazing opportunities that spectators have to be just outside the action. The course is designed to be viewer-friendly, with racers zooming within feet of spectators as they take in all the action on the water. The Outer Mole is by far one of the best places for viewing the races, which is located on the Truman Waterfront. Separate VIP tickets can be purchased in advance for the Outer Mole, including a water shuttle to get out there. Some of the best spectator locations from land include the many waterfront hotels and restaurants located on the race course, and of course the famous Mallory Square.

There will be many events taking place during the races, both on race days and off days. Races will take place on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday, with races scheduled at 10:00, 12:30, 1:30, and 2:30 on these respective days. On off days, race enthusiasts can meet the teams, see the boats, participate in the annual build-a-boat competition, watch the boat parade, and attend the parties and concerts that are scheduled.

If you are a resident of Key West real estate, be sure to take note of these dates and times, as tourists will flock to the city, so you can plan accordingly. Love Key West?
