Should You Live in the Lower Florida Keys?

If you are looking to purchase a piece of real estate for sale in the Florida Keys, the first question that you should answer is, “Where in the Florida Keys do I want to live?” It is imperative to understand the differences between the different areas and the different islands to know where you should be looking, and where you will be truly happy living. Each area has its own distinct characteristics that greatly impact the lifestyle that you can expect from living there. While the Upper and Middle Keys are fantastic places to live, if you really want to indulge in the natural beauty and enjoy the environmental wonders of the Florida Keys, the Lower Keys are right for you!

The Lower Keys consist of the most southern islands, though Key West is often considered its own category. Some of the most popular places to live in the Lower Keys include Big Pine Key, the Torch Keys, Summerland Key, Ramrod Key, Cudjoe Key, the Sugarloaf Keys, Saddlebunch, and Big Coppitt Key. These are some of the most undeveloped areas in the Keys, leaving residents to enjoy an undisturbed tropical wonderland. Here, residents can enjoy two different wildlife refuges, Bahia Honda State Park, and a national marine sanctuary. Residents will never run out of stunning environmental areas to explore, both in the water and on land!

Living in a piece of Lower Fl keys real estate gives residents a perfect jumping off point to be able to enjoy Key West, without being in the hustle and bustle on a daily basis. On average, it is only about 40 minutes or less to reach Key West, where you can find some of the best dining and entertainment venues in the Keys. While all of this is so close, living in the Lower Keys provides the most tranquil lifestyle of anywhere in the Keys.

If you are someone who is purchasing a Florida Keys home and intends on spending most of the time around the Keys instead of traveling to the mainland often, then the Lower Keys is great for you. If you need to travel to the mainland often, be aware that it typically takes upwards of two and a half hours or more to get off the islands from the Lower Keys. If travel time to the mainland is important to you, check out Upper Keys homes.

No matter where you choose for your Florida Keys home, you cannot go wrong! But understanding exactly what your needs and wants are will help to make sure you get everything you are looking for out of living in the Keys.
