About Long Key

Located in the Middle Keys between Islamorada and Marathon is beautiful ecological sanctuary of Long Key. Though there are not many commercial ventures on Long Key, there are plenty in the neighboring areas. What Long Key is really known for is the Long Key State Park, a fantastic natural park spanning 965 acres. Visitors love Long Key State Park for its top camping facilities, hiking trails, fishing spots, snorkeling areas, and kayaking sites. The main attractions tend to be a series of lagoons that offer beautiful views when kayaking or canoeing, and the two land trails for hiking and enjoying nature. Long Key is also widely recognized as arguably the best area in the Florida Keys to partake in bonefishing.

Long Key was originally named Rattlesnake Key, a nod to its unique shape that resembles a snake with its mouth open. Historically, Long Key was the home to a beautiful luxury resort that drew people to the island to take advantage of the fantastic fishing locations around Long Key. Unfortunately, this resort was destroyed with the Labor Day Hurricane of 1935, but the tradition continues today as the island continues to draw anglers from around the country.
